The Realization That To Be In The Moment Is A Thing Of The Past

getting to know someoneOnce upon a time, it was cool to be in the moment. That when living in the present you were in touch with your senses. It was believed that to experience life to its extreme, to its pinnacle, it was necessary to experience all of the sensory stimuli surrounding it.

But realize that this being in the moment thing may no longer be relevant, as it’s gone the moment it happens. It becomes history in the rear view mirror, as dwelling can become impractical and self-defeating. Everything today happens at light speed, as technology has devoured everything, which at one time was worth reflecting.

We no longer pay attention to our surroundings, we miss most of the small things which makes up our lives. What we’re doing is denying ourselves of experiences.

Losing Our Senses
How can we become immersed in our environment, if our heads are slumped while texting or talking on our smartphones. Sure there are important calls to make, but we do so because we can no longer deal with our solitude.

It’s our infatuation with our new electronic devices which drives us to new dimensions of consciousness. The compounding pressures of the modern world has built up to unmanageable proportions.

Or it could be the anxiety of silence or the fear of spontaneity, which has us clinging to our objects. Like ostriches, what we do is bury our heads in the sand, this by turning to the predictable security that is a familiar voice or text on the digital screen.

To Remain Safe
The world that we live in is becoming unpredictable and a scary place, while also breeding repetition and banality, which may be the last thing most of us want, so we just surrender.

Avoiding the downside of life which is the present, we might be denying the magic which happens through observation and interaction.

Once we turn our backs on fate and serendipity, we exchange the opportunity of something potentially wonderful happening, yet we choose dull and predictable.

What we do is leave it to the movies to cultivate our fantasies. We believe we’ll never meet our soulmate on the street, so why even bother looking.

It’s easier to join a social media site or an online dating service, and then just blame them. It’s dull, lazy, and ineffective, but it’s easy. So why even bother looking up from our smartphones, when there’s nothing but disappointment.

Need For Detail
To assess quality along with value means paying attention. But we’re too distracted by our own vices, too busy because of our detrimental habits, we don’t even bother paying attention.

This is similar to those who travels extensively to exotic locales, which are rich with cultural or architectural wonders, but all they take are selfies of the food they ate.

Our Opinions Gone
To understand the difference between quality and junk, we rely on marketing and branding. We purchase labels and not always quality, this to express we’re wanting the better things in life.

We no longer make our own choices on what we buy, eat, wear, or drive, based on artisan skills or the quality of good design and engineering, but more on perceived status and branding.

We leave it to others who tells us what’s good or right for us, and then wonder why we feel frustrated or ripped off. We choose our lovers based on the same principles.

To Be Alone
Despite putting forth our best efforts to distract ourselves from living in the present, what we can’t avoid is human contact altogether. What’s still acknowledged is the underlying chemistry, which is caused by the attraction to others.

These are the vibes and the pheromones, our sexual response to certain intangibles. What we often overlook, are the undeniable invisible distinctions which makes someone unique.

What we seek instead are the behaviors which makes us similar, making them easier to define through simple jargon and generic slogans. Doing so makes us comfortable once we pigeonhole the world by classifying our lovers, into rudimentary categories.

Our Voices Doesn’t Matter
With this modern baseline on how we judge things, do we even know the people who we’re thinking of dating, other than knowing them by niche and preconceptions.

They tell you things about themselves, either through text or by phone, or over coffee during a speed dating session.

They tell you about their tastes in food and clothes, what they do for a living. But you still don’t really know them. Judging on how we allow ourselves to become easily distracted, what will most likely happen is everything will be forgotten or dismissed anyways.

To Pay More Attention
These reasons would stand, if you’re not paying attention, while missing the telltale signs of behavior. Telltale signs which can potentially go either way.

They can direct you towards opportunity or reveal hidden dangers. If it’s opportunity, then you missed out. If it’s danger, then you’d better look out.

Instant Search Information
This might be the reason why singles are now using background checks to investigate the history of their potential date. Considering the compressed time for meeting and evaluating, doing so now appears like a smart thing to do.

Otherwise, you have no idea who you’re really meeting online. Are they really who they say they are. Better make sure that Mr. Wonderful doesn’t prefer your kids over you.

To Protect Yourself
So the most convenient way once you first meet someone you find interesting, and before going on a date, is to make sure that they’re legit.

Know what you’re getting yourself into, go into “stalking” mode a bit, and find out who they are, which should reveal the truth. Better safe than sorry.
